Photosensitive Materials
Color Photosensitive Materials / Transparent Photosensitive Materials
Photosensitive materials are used for displaying colors via pixelated color filters in TFT-LCDs. Color filters are located in the upper deck of the LCD, composed of color filter photoresist, black matrix, overcoat and column spacers. As the leading producer of photosensitive materials, LG Chem offers a wide range of products with superior quality. We are particularly proud of the latest achievement; our color photoresists have proven to have the highest contrast ratios (HCRs) available in the market. The HCR products are most widely used in high definition (HD) LCD TVs and high resolution PC monitors. Furthermore, the high transmittance products are popular for laptops and other mobile applications. LG Chem also offers products with a wide spectrum of colors, another key requirement for high quality displays. All products are available in both spin and spinless types to meet our customer's specifications. The current display market is extremely dynamic, especially with a very short product life cycle.

We are fully aware of the market demand and are doing our best to meet customer expectations by continuously introducing new advanced photosensitive materials to the market. In order to maintain a leading position, LG Chem has put a lot of effort into its research and development. Taking an advantage of its excellence in chemical synthesis and photochemistry, LG Chem developed several key materials with its own proprietary technologies. LG Chem's photoresist products exhibit superior qualities and performances that have been favored by several world's leading LCD panel and color filter makers. The photosensitive materials of LG Chem have a wide process margin and a high sensitivity in the color filter manufacturing process that are crucial for the successful production of LCDs.

Materials for Post-LCD

OLED Materials

OLED is a light-emitting optoelectronic device where the injected charge carriers from counter electrodes recombine at emitting layers. Highly efficient OLED works as followed. It consists of a transport layer and an emitting layer. The role of each transport layers is to achieve easy delivery of charge carriers toward emitting layers where the recombination occurs. The role of emitting layers is to convert the electrical energy harbored in these counter charge carriers into valuable photons that are eventually emitted from the OLED.

LG Chem mainly develops such high quality materials. To understand the relationship between the structure and property of OLED materials, resources for the research project span a wide range of science including electrical engineering, electronics, physics, optics, materials engineering, as well as basic chemistry. The project on OLED materials requires a multidisciplinary association of research fields. Based on the current findings, OLED materials show a possibility to extend their applications into organic electronics such as OPV(organic photovoltaic) and OTFT(organic thin film transistor) applications. Cathode Materials
Cathode materials in a lithium-ion cell are ceramic composite powders made up of lithium and transition-metal oxides, which are lithium sources, releasing and accepting lithium ions in charge-discharge cycles. Superior cathode materials have high capacity thermal stability decreasing the risk of internal short’s leading to a thermal runaway a good cycle life preventing a reaction with electrolytes, and high c-rate design maintaining a low surface temperature during a high c-rate discharge. LG Chem has successfully mass-produced the world’s first NMCs in a fully-automated, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. The products have the best qualities attainable due to the precursor and heat treatment technologies of LG Chem. Presently the technology is applicable to mobile phones, laptops, and vehicle batteries.

Electrolyte
Electrolytes play an important role in secondary Li-ion batteries by controlling the transfer of Li ions between a cathode and an anode during charge and discharge process. They form an electrochemically and thermally stable barrier at the surface between a cathode and an anode, prolonging the property of a designed cell securing the safety by preventing gas generation and overcharge. LG Chem has an ability to provide the electrolytes, wherein functional additives satisfying various battery properties are applied, from cylindrical, prismatic, and polymer types of batteries to automobile and ESS (Energy Storage System) batteries. LG Chem is currently focusing on developing new electrolytes that are stable under high voltage and are able to obtain a high power to achieve a high capacity for cathodes and anodes.
